The life of political prisoner Sohrabi Rad in danger

AUTHOR:   Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran

Translated by  Neda Shayesteh

Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran were told that Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad, who has been under unbearable pressure and who has tolerated inhumane behaviours, has attempted suicide a few times to relieve himself of his current situation.

Mr. Sohrabi Rad was a member of Mr. Karoubi’s campaign. He was arrested in September under the accusation of helping Mr. Davari, editor of Saham News Site, to make a documentary about the crimes committed in Kahrizak Prison. The documentary was made to be presented to the judiciary and Khamenei’s office.

[Mr. Sohrabi Rad] was arrested by Information Ministry agents. After the questioning session, he was sent to ward 350 of Evin Prison. He was psychologically tortured in ward 350 and 209. About two months ago, he attempted suicide by cutting the vein in his left hand in front of Mr. Sedaghat (the head of the prison) and Mr. Bozorgnia (a torturer of political prisoners in ward 350).

He was taken to the Evin health center and there his life was saved. Agents of the Information Ministry and Mr. Sedaghat transferred him to an individual cell on the fourth floor of ward 240 of Evin Prison. There they continued with their medieval-style torture methods.

Another political prisoner who saw Mr. Sohrabi Rad when he was being taken to the Revolutionary Court and who had talked to him, said that psychological torture and abuse against Sohrabi Rad has increased, and as a result, he has attempted suicide twice. It is believed that the agents of the Information Ministry are planning to kill him through this inhumane method.

Political prisoner Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad is asking his fellow prisoners and human rights activists to save him from this slow death.

Sohrabi Rad recently got married and he is the son of a martyr who fought during the war. His mother who raised her son alone is unaware of Mr. Sohrabi Rad’s situation. Some time ago, in a reassessment request by a political prisoner of ward 350 to the commissioner of the *Constitution Committee of Article 90, Sohrabi Rad’s name was mentioned.

Currently, more than 100 political prisoners are being held in ward 350 of Evin Prison. Bozorgnia, a well-known torturer at Evin, has them under unethical pressure.

The following are the names of some of the political prisoners arrested after the election and who are being kept in ward 350:

Ahmad ZeidAbadi, Hedayat Aghayee, Davood Soleimani, Jahanbakhsh Khanjani, Masood Bastani, Peyman Aref, Abdollah Momeni, MohammadReza Noorbakhsh, Bahman Ahmad Amooyee, Majid Dori, Zia Nabavi, and Masood Lavasani.

Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran is worried about the life of Sohrabi Rad and urgently ask the UN High Commissioner of Human Rights and other organizations supporting human rights issues to take the necessary measures to save Iranian political prisoners.

* The Constitution Committee of Article 90 was created to enforce Article 90 in the Islamic Republic’s constitution.  Article 90 grants power to Parliament to follow up with written complaints by citizens against executive and judiciary powers.
